Job Description:

NVIT anticipates the need for an exempt, full-time, ongoing Human Resources Advisor at our Burnaby campus and invites applications from qualified candidates. The anticipated start date will be as soon as the suitable candidate is available.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor leads to promote a positive, healthy, and supportive working environment. The HR Advisor provides confidential support to all employee groups within the Institution relating to HR. Processing pension, contracts, T4s, WorkSafe, and Employer Health Tax, as well as assisting with professional development, recruitment, employee orientation, health and wellness, employee morale, and the completion of a variety of HR reports also falls under the responsibility of this position. The HR Advisor will also support Burnaby campus operations and provide administrative support to Senior Management Team members. This includes being the primary point of contact on behalf of the Employee Wellness Committee, assisting with campus events, meetings and initiatives, and requests from the President's office. The HR Advisor will work collaboratively with the HR team members based at the Merritt Campus.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience, preferably in a unionized work environment;
  • Training or experience in pension processing and associated reports;
  • An understanding of Canada's history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;
  • Promotion of holistic wellness and trauma-informed practice;
  • Excellent empathetic and emotionally intelligent communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal) combined with outstanding human relations, team building and organizational skills
  • Ability to work and problem-solve both independently and in a team environment;
  • Proven ability to multi-task, establish work priorities and to work in a high volume, detailed environment with attention to accuracy and timelines;
  • Experience with integrated database systems;
  • Experience handling HR processes and issues related to benefits, recruiting and employee relations;
  • Extensive computer systems experience with proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs;
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality service to students, the public and the NVIT community;
  • Skilled in maintaining and supporting business processes, including budget control and data integrity;
  • Capable of resolving issues in an open and participative manner; and
  • Ability and willingness to travel between campuses and to various event locations;
