As a Labourer II with the Forestry Tree Lighting Program, you will brighten the lives of Edmontonians and will make a difference every day. With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Operate a 2-ton aerial unit to install, replace and adjust decorative tree lights on City trees
  • Provide traffic control and direction including greeting the public and providing prompt and courteous service
  • Perform minor tree pruning as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Conduct all job duties in a safe manner and in compliance with City and Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Legislation regulations, codes, policies and competency training
  • Operate and perform minor maintenance on equipment, which may include the use of chainsaws and various pruning tools

Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Minimum 1 year experience in maintaining trees, including tree pruning and maintenance
  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of specific work assignments, including experience operating 2 ton-aerial unit
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and hazards involved in the assigned work
  • Possession of Emergency First Aid and Fall Arrest Certification is an asset
  • Completion of WHIMS and Chainsaw Training are assets
  • Must be physically capable of performing medium to heavy manual labour in various weather and environmental conditions, including at heights and in poor lighting
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to understand verbal and written communication, including interpreting work assignments and successfully interacting with the public and co-workers
  • Ability to maintain simple records, including completing task cards and work records
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position. Possession of Air Brake (Q) endorsement will be considered an asset
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position

Up to 1 permanent full-time position

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Sunday - Thursday. Incumbents may be required to work variable hours; however the regular shift for this work is the evening shift (6:00 pm - 2:00 am).

Salary Range: $23.504 - $31.302 (Hourly); $49,076.350 - $65,358.580 (Annually)
