The Director of Business Development and Marketing is a critical role, and the successful applicant will be tasked to elevate Powertech as a trusted innovation partner providing solutions, specialized testing and technical expertise for a safe and sustainable energy future. This position reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Services and Business Operations and will work closely with the CEO & President as well as the Senior Director, Technical Services. As the Director of Business Development and Marketing, you will be part of the leadership team that will work towards the growth of our company by identifying business opportunities and expanding our customer base. You will lead a team of marketing and business development professionals to implement marketing strategies and develop new business partnerships.
Major Responsibilities:
- Drive the enhancement and broadening of our marketing and business development strategies to elevate Powertech's services and products worldwide in both North American and international markets. This includes refining branding, messaging, positioning, and communications
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the electrical utility industry, with specific focus on the emerging hydrogen market
- Proactively monitor and understand market trends that will lead to new business opportunities, increased revenue, and contracts with clients
- Develop and execute strategies for industry participation and leads management to enhance Powertech's visibility, generate sales leads, and foster industry relationships.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as engineering, testing, operations, and manufacturing to ensure that Powertech's services and products meet the needs of our customers.
- Manage, set objectives, and motivate sales and business development professionals in the design and implementation of comprehensive marketing strategies including the development of marketing material, website, and market engagement through social media channels
- Manage, develop long-term action plans, and create customer satisfaction related reports based on data collected from customer satisfaction survey
- Analyze the sales forecast and support the generation and presentation of forecast related reports.
- Strengthen industry partnerships with key industry players and infrastructure operators. Assess and advise on potential joint venture structures or consortia to promote or deliver large scale hydrogen opportunities
- Perform market research and competitor analysis to support decision making and work with leadership team to obtain an increased market share
- Travel to client sites, other Powertech offices, conferences, and industry events
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business, Marketing, or equivalent field. Master's degree preferred
- 10+ years proven sales experience including business development and marketing preferably in power industry (electrical utility industry and/or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)) with a focus on the emerging Hydrogen market
What Do You Bring
- Strong competency in identifying profitable business opportunities and potential clients particularly focused on international markets, including North America.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of marketing and business development professionals based in different locations
- Advanced knowledge of business development, marketing strategies, and brand expansion
- Competency in negotiating and closing business deals as well as managing proposals and negotiating contracts
- Exceptional ability to analyze market trends, competitors and customer behavior
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Previous experience in engineering consulting would be an asset.
- Strong competency in identifying profitable business opportunities and potential clients
- Experience with CRM usage and implementation

Salary Range: $155,000 - $182,000 annually
