Job Description

Our client in the Public Sector is currently seeking a Communications Advisor to join their team on a full-time basis for a contract of 1 year starting on June 1st. This role will be hybrid, with onsite requirements 1-2 days a week onsite in Downtown Toronto.

Responsibilities:

  • Crafting communication plans and strategies for designated projects, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Overseeing day-to-day communication activities for assigned projects and programs, encompassing strategic planning, identifying opportunities for success, managing potential issues and risks, coordinating site visits, liaising with government stakeholders, and offering project-specific communication guidance to leadership.
  • Developing high-caliber communication materials, subject to approval by the Manager or Director, including key messaging, PowerPoint presentations, social media content, issue briefs, communication strategies, speeches, and web content.
  • Coordinating the review, editing, and fact-checking processes for materials provided by ministry partners, ensuring accuracy and proactively identifying potential public relations concerns.
  • Composing, editing, and reviewing web content and engagement portal material, overseeing approval processes with project partners.
  • Cultivating robust internal and external relationships to foster effective collaboration and prioritize communication endeavors, with regular engagement with community-based stakeholders, client ministries, project contractors, senior vice presidents, project directors, project managers, and the local community.

Requirements:

  • Holders of a post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated track record in communications, preferably with exposure to governmental projects.
  • Extensive proficiency in developing and executing strategic communication and issues management plans, crafting communication materials, managing stakeholder relations, and coordinating special events.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with sound judgment and robust analytical abilities.
  • Experience or familiarity with the public sector and/or construction industry is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
