As a Capital Project Manager, you will be responsible for the execution and support of key capital projects across our 1.6 million square foot food processing site in Leamington, Ontario. You will work closely with key stakeholders throughout the business to plan, develop, and manage key improvement initiatives. You will also provide project definition and execution skills to capital projects of moderate to high complexity within a portfolio of ongoing projects.

This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Engineering & CI. You will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team that values your input and expertise. What you will do:

Project Execution

  • Manage the full lifecycle of selected key capital projects in the $50k to $5++M range
  • Prepare scope of work documents including design basis, major equipment specifications, and control requirements
  • Work with outside consultants as required to properly scope and deliver projects
  • Ensure the supervision, commissioning, and start-up of capital projects
  • Monitor financial performance of projects throughout execution to ensure budgetary performance and effective management of scope change

Project Reporting

  • Provide recurring reports on project status to key project stakeholders and the Highbury Executive Team
  • Document project outcomes, lessons learned, best practices, and recommendations for future projects

Project Planning

  • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in developing and implementing best practices
  • Support short-term (1 year) and long-term (3-5 year) capital plan development
  • Perform other duties as required

What you will need:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • P. Eng designation preferred
  • 3-5 years of Industrial/Manufacturing experience
  • Previous project management experience

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with various industrial standards/codes (PSR, ESA, CRN, TSAA, etc.)
  • General knowledge of a variety of engineering disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, controls, process, etc.)
  • Knowledge of tendering process
  • Knowledge of risk management tools (FMEA, FEA, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of project management software, such as MS Project, MS Excel and SharePoint

Soft Skills

  • Ability to engage and have technical discussions in fields outside area of expertise
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently
  • Technical skills with the ability to work at both the plant and corporate level
  • Continuously seeking knowledge and possess a growth mindset
  • Understand and have experience in capital project execution from scope definition to start-up
  • Ability to handle detailed, structured problems, identifying roadblocks to task completion.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to adapt communication to specific situations and audiences
  • Maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Apply basic research, information gathering, and analytical skills to select appropriate alternatives from defined options, collect required documentation and verify conformance with standards, assess accuracy of detailed information
