As a member of the peopleCare team, the Registered Practical Nurse ensures all aspects of health & wellness services within the facility meet and exceed the needs and expectations of our residents. This position ensures the effective and efficient delivery of health & wellness services to our residents. The Registered Practical Nurse will ensure the residents enjoyment and health and well-being within the scope of their professional practice. The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible to the Director of Health & Wellness and the development of a strong relationships that will deliver optimal service to residents and families based on RHRA / peopleCare / professional standards Provide professional nursing care to all residents and supervise care given by the Resident Care Co-ordinators. Assess all resident needs and health status. Work closely with the Director of Health and Wellness, Attending Physicians, Food Services and Leisure /Recreation. Provide directions and supervision of all Care staff. Assess residents' conditions by recognizing signs and symptoms and where necessary initiates remedial health measures. Oversees the Resident Care Co-ordinators during medication administration. Ensures medical records are maintained. Participates in the staff development, quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control programs. Ensures nursing documentation is complete as per College of Nurses' Nursing Documentation guidelines. Adhere to all established policies and procedures. Emergency nursing care. Assists to ensure a resident care plan is up to date. Aware of role and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Ability to hire, discipline and schedule / re-schedule Resident Care Co-ordinators. Good physical and mental health and free from communicable diseases. Knowledge of the Nursing practices and nursing diagnosis. Certified in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid. Sitting for long periods at a desk for computer/typing work. Typing and/or use of a computer keyboard proficiently. Pulling/pushing/lifting to open and/or relocate binders, carts, etc. Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen for long periods of time. Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes. Speaking/communicating in front of audiences and with individuals who may have impairments and disabilities. Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care where required. Dexterity required opening pouches/blister packs, inserting test strips into glucometers, etc. RESPONSIBILITIES TO HEALTH AND SAFETY: Is a competent Worker as defined by the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Is knowledgeable of the responsibilities of a Resident Coordinator, and follows all health and safety policies and procedures. Completes all safety training as required by peopleCare Inc. Is alert to, remedies, or promptly reports all actual or potential hazardous situations to the Director of Health & Wellness of the home, and/or Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Ensures that all reported injuries/illnesses are treated promptly and documented according to policy. Must be knowledgeable of home fire and disaster plan.
