Location: Surrey, British Columbia

4 days onsite, 1 day remote

The Director of Human Resources will have a multifaceted role that encompasses both the strategic and operational aspects of human resources. This role will report directly to the Vice President Human Resources Canada and work closely with the regional leaders and teams across Western Canada (British Columbia & Alberta). The Director of HR is responsible for multi-site operations covering employee relations, labor relations & union management, negotiations, talent management, coaching and mentoring, and driving change management.

Job Duties

  • Oversee and administer all Human Resources functions within the organization, including employee relations, labor relations, managing performance, talent management, culture & engagement, and overseeing Human Resources Business Partners.
  • Deliver HR solutions in collaboration with business leaders and employees.
  • Manage employee relations issues from investigations to effective resolution, ensuring consistent application of the company's vision, values, policies, and beliefs.
  • Maintain ownership of HR business partner processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable employment legislation and standards.
  • Actively participate in the collective bargaining process.
  • Lead contract administration including but not limited to grievance management, and collaboration with union Business Representatives.
  • Drive the talent management process with a focus on establishing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for coaching, talent development, succession, individual development plans, and talent reviews.
  • Assist management in providing effective leadership development through coaching.
  • Using key business data analysis to make recommendations to effectively communicate HR products, services, and programs (HR best practices, orientation, and talent management).
  • Communicate reward and retention philosophy of the organization and the business units. Ensures promotion and reward decisions are closely correlated with operating performance of business unit.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Human Resources or other related field of study or relevant work experience.
  • An active CPHR is required.
  • 7-10 years of experience, specifically in a HR Management or Human Resources Business Partner role. Ideally over 3-5 years of leadership experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in union negotiation and administration of collective agreements.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian employment law and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, practices, laws, and regulations governing human resources and policies and procedures.
  • Experience with mergers & acquisitions, change management, and organizational design is a huge plus.
  • Excellent demonstration of interpersonal, communication, customer service, project management and organizational skills.
  • Flexible for regional travel of up to 25% (including overnight and occasional international travel)
