The Role

As a result of continued growth, we are seeking a Health & Safety Specialist in our Blacks Harbour, NB office. This position will report directly to the Director of Health & Safety. The successful candidate will have the drive, determination, and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet the established criteria.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure compliance with provincial Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
2. Ensure employee compliance with company H&S Programs, policies, and procedures
3. Conduct H&S site inspections and audits
4. Assist managers with incident investigations, follow-up on corrective actions
5. Assist managers in developing safe work practices and implementing industry best practices and standards
6. Ensure timely safety data entry and incident reporting to ensure accurate reporting and timely corrective actions are implemented
7. Assist management to develop practices for integrating health and safety into all business operations

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Ability to analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations
• Knowledge of Provincial OHS Act and Regulations and Canada Labour Code
• Skills in incident injury analysis and investigation
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfortable handling conflict

Assets:

• 3 – 5 years' experience working in the Health & Safety field
• Experience in a marine environment
• Experience in a food processing plant
• Health & Safety certificate and/or diploma
• Ability to travel within the Atlantic Provinces when required, potentially on short notice
