ROLE OVERVIEW

Provide health, safety and environmental support to the project staff, workforce, and Health Safety & Environment departments. Where required, provide advice to project staff and key stakeholders.

Thiess is seeking Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisors project-based role to support our mining team. The HSE Advisor will be a key role, working with the People & Capabilities Manager, Project Manager, Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisors, Environmental and Engineering teams. Duties will include coordination of daily HSE functions and support activities, input into the Thiess HSE data and incident management systems. This role will provide health, safety and environmental support to the project staff, workforce, and Health Safety & Environment departments. Where required, provide advice to project staff and key stakeholders.

Works independently and collaboratively with HSE team members and other North American regional leadership in an autonomous capacity. Provides early warning to the regional HSE Manager regarding process deficiencies or schedule slippage. Skilled in the use of computer programs and development of databases, spreadsheets, presentations and HSE literature. Preferably has working familiarity with Thiess's environmental, safety and health processes and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to the People & Capability Manager and receives support and direction from the North American regional HSE Manager and Project Manager.
  • Acts as Thiess representative for environmental performance as detailed by ISO 14001.
  • Provides guidance, support and supervision to personnel assigned to support the projects.
  • Maintains relationships with internal clients (e.g., engineering, operations, and contracts) and customer and contractor/subcontractor representatives to coordinate the administration and implementation of HSE functions on projects and facilities.
  • Accountable for implementing, inspecting, monitoring and reporting on environmental requirements on site.
  • Conduct, review and update Environmental Toolboxes.
  • Promote environmentally responsible work practices.
  • Maintains contact with project HSE personnel to keep them informed of HSE issues and to ensure adequate technical support.
  • Develops and consolidates HSE weekly and monthly project report data for distribution.
  • Track deliverables, action items and corrective actions across the project in Synergy (software).
  • Develops HSE Reports with a high level of accuracy for distribution to NA REGION and project entities.
  • Develops spreadsheets, workbooks, presentations, communications and HSE informational based literature.
  • Recognized areas for improvement and makes recommendations to the Project Manager and Function HSE manager with sound proposals.
  • Coordinates with Project Manager to obtain approval on work release.
  • Supports HSE Function with launching and promoting HSE initiatives and campaigns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in similar role or industry
  • U nderstanding of mining planning and execution.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the proficient use of Microsoft Office applications i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience in safety/health assessments/inspections during pre-stripping and mine development.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety/health awareness training programs.
  • Familiar with Ontario Green Book OH&S Act & Regulations
  • Mining Act resources
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required .

DESIREABLE CRITERIA

  • Ability to navigate and manage key internal and external relationships.
  • Knowledge of Thiess's organization structure, functions, and administrative procedures.
  • Familiar with ISOs 9001, 14001, 45001 .
  • Familiar with NIOSH .
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Has a professional outlook and had the ability to produce work of a high-quality standard.
  • Applies a very high level of attention to detail to all outputs.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of HSE, or equivalent.
  • In lieu of formal degree, relevant experience working in a similar role and responsibilities as HSE managerial role.
  • Safety/health-related certifications from national/international accrediting organizations/associations .
  • Training certification, Incident investigation, 5whys and ICAM root cause analysis, or equivalent .

  • Previous experience working in a similar role is extremely advantageous.

The salary range for this role is $109,942– $131,930 CAD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Thiess considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
