The Truck and Transport/ Vessel Technician is a team player who assists with planning, preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and other associated tasks as outlined below. The Technician assists with maintenance for the fleet of amphibious vehicles while supporting vessel maintenance in conjunction with our marine department to provide our guests as well as our team with a safe, reliable and aesthetically pleasing fleet.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with maintenance of Transport Canada Inspected Passenger Vessels in a manner that ensures the Safety and Security of the Crew, Enjoyment of the Passengers, and Respect for the Environment.
  • Our Technicians adhere to all company policies.
  • Directly supervises apprentices, labourers and contractors.
  • Maintains apprentice paperwork as required.
  • Inspects and maintains vessels to ensure they meet standards laid out by Transport Canada and the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.
  • Routinely inspects all areas of the vessels for unsafe conditions.
  • Assists in maintaining the companies assets including the Cable Wharf and any associated outbuildings.
  • Maintains and updates maintenance logs.
  • Maintains and updates work orders in Upkeep
  • Maintains and replenish inventory and takes part in annual inventory audits.
  • Throughout the day, at beginning and at ending of shifts; will ensure that a clean workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Standing, bending, stooping, and lifting weights up to and including 50lbs may be required. The marine hospitality business functions seven (7) days a week, twenty-four hours a day. During the operating season, hours outside of a regular Monday- Friday schedule can be expected.

Qualifications

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following skill sets to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Valid Red Seal Truck and Transport Trade Certification and other trade tickets.
  • Clean drivers abstract
  • Problem solving-the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Demonstrated ability- maintains Transport Canada and NSUARB inspected vehicles and vessels.
  • Communications - the individual must speak clearly so listeners can understand and recognize and understand the speech of another person.
  • Customer service-responds to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments.
  • Physical demands - the individual occasionally may have the ability to move or lift up to 50lbs.
  • Planning/organizing-the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.
  • Quality control-the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback to improve performance.
  • Quantity-meets productivity standards and completes work in a timely manner and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability-the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Safety and Security-the individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
