Job Description

Under the supervision of the manager of the engineering department, the Mechanical Drafter is responsible for drafting electro-mechanical systems. Some of the aspect that the Mechanical Drafter is involved include the drafting of components in collaboration with project designer. The drafter should communicate with project designers, understand the product, related manufacturing steps, and assembly procedure and perform the 2D drawings per manufacturability. The drafter may be asked to participate in design and support the other departments during drafting phase of the project.

Role and responsibilities

  • Work closely with project designers and understand the product comprehensively.
  • Draft all types of parts (CAD) and mechanical systems.
  • Understand the manufacturing and assembly procedures of the product and create drawings per operational procedure.
  • Ensure that existing technical drawing procedures and policies are followed.
  • Create technical drawings based on preliminary ideas or concepts.
  • Research, classify, and archive all documents and drawings.
  • Work with fellow department members on developing and standardizing drawings procedures and instructions.
  • Perform 2D and 3D design and drafting on various CAD software.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • DEP in drafting, mechanical design or equivalent.
  • Have a relevant experience between 5 to 10 years.
  • Knowledge and experience of sheet metal, surface models, tubular weldments.
  • Knowledge and experience of welding and assembly drawings.
  • Familiar with manufacturing process such as laser cut, bending, and welding.
  • Have a good knowledge of geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Have good mechanical skills.
  • Master the SolidWorks platform.
  • Is creative, while being very well organized and structured.
  • Have a good team spirit and be customer oriented.
  • Advanced spoken and written bilingualism (French - English) - an asset.
