The Vice President Research and Innovation (VPRI) portfolio includes the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (OVPRI), Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI), Office of Research Services, Animal Care Services, Research Partnerships Office, and responsibility for UVic research centres and research entities. The OVPRI staff support the VPRI, Associate Vice-Presidents Research and all of the activities of the portfolio to accomplish the missions and goals set out in the University strategic plan and individual unit plans. Reporting to the Director SRI (DSRI), the Strategic Project Officers (SPOs) work with the VPRI Executive team to develop and implement strategic initiatives related to research, facilitate internal and external research capacity building, and enhance the university's research profile. This role is a key enabler of research strategy within UVic, requiring demonstration of leadership, prioritization, creative solution finding, as well as collaboration with researchers and key members of the OVPRI management and the UVic and external community. Responsibilities include: developing and implementing project plans for research initiatives that support the Research and Creative Works Strategy; managing the development of research networks and clusters at UVic; planning and organizing stakeholder meetings; writing reports; conducting research and analysis; Graduate degree in a related field (health, science, engineering, social sciences, humanities, arts). Equivalent combinations of education, training and/or experience may be considered. Expert knowledge of research management and/or administration in the post-secondary education sector; Project management, communication planning and project reporting; Event organization and management; Demonstrated experience with engagement processes that exhibit the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion; Self-motivated and self-directed with a willingness to take on new responsibilities and adapt, manage and facilitate change; Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance and manage multiple priorities; Skilled at building equitable relationships; Advanced computer skills including - Microsoft Office suite including; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and project management software; Working knowledge of and willingness to learn more about local Indigenous protocols and cultural practices. The following are considered to be assets: Background in research skills, methodologies, program evaluation and academic disciplines.
