Wood's Homes is looking for two (2) full time Family Support Counsellor I to join our Family Connections program at Lethbridge.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Family Support Counsellor I is responsible for the delivery of family support services to the children and families in the care of Wood's Homes.Family support services include in home support as well as school liaison and community co-ordination as needed. Family Support Workers can be attached to educational, residential or community-based services and this determination is governed by the needs and procedures of those programs. The Family Support Counsellor will demonstrate due diligence in being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood's Homes.

Responsibilities

  • Completes program related assessment process and jointly establishes goals and areas of focus.
  • Advocates for the family and in that role supports the development of a network of resources with the family, community and other involved professionals while teaching the families how to advocate for themselves.
  • Provides parent skills training in addition to supportive individual and family counselling.
  • Attends to the safety of all family members by intervening directly in crisis situations and providing follow-up care as required.
  • Participates in weekly supervision, case reviews, clinical rounds, and team meetings in order to ensure the delivery of effective Family Support services.
  • Reports workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to their direct supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree required in one of the Human Sciences, Childcare, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) to four (4) years' experience working with infants, children and/or adolescents, and families.
  • Family and in-home support experience preferred.
  • Case Management experience is preferred.
  • Must have a full, non-GDL class 5 driver's license and own transportation.
  • Personal suitability.
