Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and cook:
    • Complete meals or individual dishes and food.
    • Special meals for patients as instructed by dietitian or chef.
  • Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers.
  • Oversee kitchen operations.
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
  • May set up and oversee buffets.
  • May clean kitchen and work area.
  • Cooks specialize in preparing and cooking ethic cuisine or special dishes.
  • Prepare sauces, salads and soups according to established recipes and make sure to store them correctly.
  • Perform portioning and garnishing work to ensure an aesthetic appearance for each dish prepared.
  • Measure and use the correct amount of ingredients to cook menu items.
