Job Description

Our client is a large Irish engineering consultancy. As a Technical Director, you will be part of the senior management team, reporting to the board of directors. You will deliver major projects nationwide in both the public and private sectors with a pipeline of interesting and challenging projects across all major industry sectors.

You will be working on the delivery of major structural projects, with responsibility for the technical, managerial, and commercial aspects of your projects. An excellent track record in project delivery is required, including design, people management, project costing, budgeting, preparation of all contract documentation, programming, chairing meetings, managing contractual issues, site monitoring for compliance, and contributing to the handover of completed projects.

You should have an excellent understanding of engineering principles and a strong technical focus, with the ability to apply engineering principles and codes of practice to solve technical problems. Conceptual design abilities are essential to provide robust and economical solutions in concrete, steel, timber, masonry, etc.

Furthermore, you will develop the technical, commercial, and management skills of staff reporting to you through mentoring, delegation, and training. It is crucial to unite and motivate your staff through leadership, mutual respect, honest communication, and hard work. You will also be responsible for developing new business in an agreed market sector, achieving delivery targets, enhancing the company profile, and assisting the Board of Directors in promoting the strategic plan.

Requirements
  1. Honours degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  2. Minimum of 15 years postgraduate experience in engineering consultancy.
  3. Chartered Status with Engineers Ireland/IStructE.
  4. Significant base of IT skills including:
    • Structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, SCIA, TEDDS suite, CADS suite, STRAP, REVIT + AutoCAD skills.
    • Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project.
  5. Independent judgement in the application of engineering science and knowledge including complex design, construction, and management.
  6. Leadership skills to plan, manage, and direct human, material, and financial resources required to solve complex problems in multi-disciplinary teams.
  7. High level of commercial understanding and application.
