About the Role - Mobile Equipment Projects Specialist (Calgary AB)

Orica is hiring a Mobile Equipment Project Specialist position who is managing the building of our delivery fleet trucks through vendors and purchasing components. Budget managment and forecasting including monthly forecasting reports

What you will be doing

  • Acting as the single point of contact for project related issues
  • Managing full project delivery including leading and coordinating the overall process, project management of:
  • day-to-day project activities
  • building estimates/quotes
  • lead project team
  • project planning & control
  • managing project scope
  • procurement
  • cost & budget tracking
  • delivery systems & logistics
  • monitoring project progress & performance to achieve Ready for Operation
  • Forecasting & Resource modelling and engagement of correct number of resources with the necessary skillset and experience to deliver projects in the region cost effectively
  • Using internal SAP database to manage and execute all procurement, forecasting and funding related project tasks.
  • Provide alignment, governance and communication to the North American project teams to ensure projects achieve the required business objectives
  • Actively contribute to an improvement process across the mobile equipment projects function
  • Continually assess performance; research and develop new capabilities and systematically apply learning and knowledge to improve the execution of the program.
  • Optimize performance across the project value chain
  • Ensure project teams have ready access to tools, best-practice information and sharing, using modern communication mediums, that will improve overall competency and performance
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and cooperation with other regions

Project Delivery

  • Ensuring compliance with Group Standards and Group Procedures
  • Ensure that appropriate SHES systems are applied and complied with
  • Ensure the needs and options are identified before the solution
  • Ensure projects are being managed within the agreed project process and act if they are not being managed
  • Ensure design is being developed to meet Orica Basis of Safety and standards.
  • Ensure procurement, contracts and commercial agreements are applied correctly to protect Orica's interests
  • Responsible for reporting and achieving all agreed delivery, cost, time, safety and technical objectives for Mobile Equipment projects in the NA Region (US/Canada/Mexico/DR)
  • When needed, travel to equipment assembly shops and perform New Equipment Inspections
  • Project progress reports
  • Contract issues post project
  • Procurement process utilized to minimize risk and save $
  • Customer satisfaction score on projects

Role dimensions

  • Key Position which will interact with leadership, stakeholders, vendors

Your qualifications

  • Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Process or Chemical) Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years' experience as a manager of technical projects
  • Bilingual - English, French or Spanish is a plus
  • Project Management training and certification is a plus
