Summary:

We seek a highly motivated, collaborative, strategic thinking accounting professional and leader to join our management team as Manager, Accounting and Investments . The successful candidate will lead a small team and oversee all accounting and day-to-day investment management administration functions of the organization.

The successful candidate will be someone who embraces digital transformation and sees the possibilities that technology brings to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of CSS' accounting and finance functions. You will be a forward-thinking individual with a solid professional accounting and financial reporting skills, you are curious, a lifelong learner, and have a keen interest in motivating team members to grow their knowledge and capacity.

You will work effectively in a team environment guided by CSS' team-developed "Pillars of Collaboration" which represents the values of "Respect, Commitment and Communications".

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

· Management of the general accounting functions of the organization including the creation of journal vouchers, accounting reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll and benefits, monitoring of bank/custodial accounts, creation and maintenance of chart of accounts and the general ledger, budgeting, revenue and expense variance analysis, fixed asset activity.

· Daily Investment Fund pricing and the maintenance and implementation of internal controls to minimize the risk of pricing errors.

· Calculation of net cash flows and reimbursements between the Pensions Fund and the Investment Funds.

· Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and producing financial reports and statements.

· Lead the annual financial budgeting process and quarterly variance analysis.

· Contributing to the establishment and enforcement of proper accounting methods, policies and principles and coordinating with external auditors to complete annual/periodic audits.

· Government/tax reporting including but not limited to T4, T4A, NRT, GST, T10, pension branch reporting, statistics Canada reporting, workers compensation, CRA remittances, and GST remittances.

· Ensuring that financial policies, procedures, and compliance controls are understood and followed by all staff in the Plan.

· Working with the Director, Investments and Financial Management in developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial and investment information.

· As a member of the management team, contributing to CSS' strategy, identifying accounting and financial reporting needs and recommending tactics to best meet them, and providing leadership in executing initiatives to deliver on the strategy and assessing results.

· Leading and championing a collaborative, forward-thinking culture within the department and working with others to achieve this mission across the organization.

· Promoting and driving innovation and continuous improvement throughout the organization on matters related to financial management and operational efficiency.

Skills and Abilities

· Effective skills in developing, implementing, executing and analyzing department and functional plans.

· Strong accounting and financial reporting knowledge, preferably in a pension organization setting.

· Strong interpersonal skills, including inclusivity, diplomacy and sensitivity to the diverse needs of individuals.

· Excellent communication and negotiation skills, including communicating complex information in an actionable manner.

· Superior organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skills

· Reputation for integrity and service excellence.

Qualifications

· A university degree in accounting or finance and a professional accounting designation.

· Experience: 5 to 7 years' experience managing the accounting function of a multi-stakeholder organization.

· Direct supervisory experience is an asset.

· Experience in the pension, benefit, and financial services sector will be considered a significant asset.

A combination of equivalent education, training and experience may be considered.
