Establishes clear objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of Alberta Education, and communicates these objectives to students. Assigns lessons and corrects homework. Observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Prepares, administers, and grades a variety of student evaluative tools such as projects, tests, assignments in order to evaluate students' progress. Enforces all administrative policies and rules governing students. Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to discuss children's progress and resource needs, and to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems, as appropriate. Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs. Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Prepares and implements remedial programs for students requiring extra help. Provides special needs students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms, as necessary. Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, as appropriate, and guides students in learning from such activities. Uses computers, multi-media, and other equipment and materials to support the learning process. Organizes and supervises recreational and other activities as appropriate, to promote physical, mental, and social development. Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests, as appropriate. Performs supervisory duties, as assigned, such as hall, cafeteria and playground monitoring, and bus loading and unloading. Plans assignments for Education Assistants, Special Education and other classroom support staff as appropriate, and assists the Principal in their supervision and evaluation of performance.
