About Us

Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world. The Role

The Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations department leads communications, community investment, government relations and corporate responsibility functions at Cameco. The Manager, Government Relations is responsible for shaping and supporting the development and execution of Cameco's global government relations strategy. This position will be located at Cameco's corporate head office in Saskatoon.

In this role, you will:

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders in provincial, federal and international governments in support of Cameco's corporate objectives and business interests
  • Research and analyse pertinent issues in order to develop government relations strategies and prepare relevant materials for senior leadership
  • Strategically manage issues and files and maintain an understanding of how government policies and decisions affect the company and the industry
  • Utilize an in-depth knowledge of government to effectively communicate and advocate with the public sector and optimize Cameco's reputation
  • Build a solid understanding of Cameco's regulatory environment
  • Provide advice and support to other Cameco departments on activities which overlap with government
  • Participate on cross-functional teams and lead assignments which require input from various subject matter experts
  • Periodically prepare submissions and conduct presentations for internal and external audiences
  • Represent Cameco at events and on public affairs committees of relevant industry associations

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, communications, public relations, business, economics or a related discipline
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in government, government relations, public affairs or a related role
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
  • Extensive experience working within government departments, elected office or the diplomatic community
  • Familiarity navigating and interpreting government regulations and legislation
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation and relationship building skills

Recommended:

  • Previous experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably nuclear energy or mining
