Reporting to the Senior Lead, Disputes and Advisory Services, the Labour Relations Consultant is part of the high volume, fast-paced team of professionals who provide a variety of labour and employment related services to the City of Edmonton. No day is the same in this role - you will balance strong technical skills and experience with curiosity to solve problems and resolve conflict. Success will also be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way. Provide expert labour relations advice to operational clients in the areas of performance management, including with re-setting performance expectations and disciplinary advice, identifying and providing advice and strategies to balance risks and outcomes Manage grievance disputes to conclusion, including representing the City's interests in the application of dispute resolution techniques to resolve disputes between management and employees/unions Develop strong and effective relationships between the unit and unions through consultation, open communication, and collaboration Apply strong understanding of the 6 City's Collective Agreements, the Employment Standards Code, and the Human Rights Act to provide clients with labour relations advice on a wide range of employment related matters, identifying risks and providing advice and strategies to overcome risks Work closely with Disability Management Consultants and operational leaders in supporting efforts with employee accommodations and/or absences under the City's Attendance Management, Duty to Accommodate Programs, and Drug and Alcohol Directives Completion of a post secondary education program (Degree or Diploma, or equivalent) in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Law or a related field Experience providing labour relations advice to clients, managing grievance disputes, collective bargaining, and/or providing interpretive advice regarding the application of collective agreements Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively support a diverse workforce in sensitive situations and deal with conflict Computer proficiency and experience in Google applications and Human Resources Information Systems Demonstrated commitment to service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness Courage, Inclusivity, Values-Based Influencer, Collaborative Networker, Systems Thinker and Creative Innovator.
