Giant Tiger is looking for a fully Bilingual Human Resources Advisor to support a section of our Quebec and Ontario stores! This is a hybrid role that requires travel to our stores, so the ideal candidate would be located in or near Quebec or Ottawa. When not traveling to our stores, the Bilingual HR Advisor will follow Giant Tiger's Work Your Way policy; and will choose to work where they work best. Due to many stores in this region being French-speaking only we do require the incumbent to be fully bilingual.

As an important member of the Store Human Resources team and reporting to the Regional Human Resources Business Partner, the Bilingual HR Advisor is responsible for supporting the Store Human Resources function, including all aspects of employee and labor relations, talent management, and Human Resources Best Practices. The HR Advisor conducts regular store visits to review Store engagement and identifies any employee relations issues and escalates/resolves those issues working in partnership with the Regional Support Managers. The HR Advisor acts as a coach to the store owners on engagement, retention, performance management, talent management, and policies and procedures.

Bilingual HR Advisor, Role Accountabilities:
  1. Conduct coaching of managers and supervisors on all employee relations issues: performance matters including progressive discipline, terminations, and other issues related to policy and provincial employment law.
  2. Execute business unit visits (changeover and engagement) working collaboratively with the business unit.
  3. Conduct discrimination and harassment investigations, providing recommendations and documentation to the business unit.
  4. Where required inform the business unit on labor and employee relations issues to mitigate risk (3rd party and litigation).
  5. Conduct HR leadership training for the business unit on Giant Tiger Talent Development Programs.
  6. Complete administrative activities for the business unit and reinforce the self-service model.
Bilingual HR Advisor, Key Qualifications:
  • Bilingualism English and French is required (expert level, conversational French skills).
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an HR role.
  • Skilled in developing positive working relationships with business leaders.
  • 1+ years experience coaching and advising managers.
  • Excellent attention to detail with written work, with a proven ability to effectively communicate in a positive way with internal business units.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate provincial employment law, policies, and regulations.
  • Relevant experience in conducting ER investigations, including Harassment investigations and supporting MOL & Human Rights claims.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
Bilingual HR Advisor, Assets:
  • HR designation such as CHRP or CHRL, either in progress or completed.
  • College or University degree in business, HR, or a related subject, either in progress or completed.
  • Strong computer skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working in Workday.
