In this capacity, the Director of Resident Programs plays a crucial role. Through leadership excellence, the successful candidate will not only manage their department's budget but also ensure that their team delivers exemplary service. What You Will be Doing:
Program Development & Implementation:
- Plan, develop and implement a comprehensive range of programs and activities designed to meet the physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of residents
- Collaborate with residents, families and team members to identify interests, preferences and needs to tailor programs accordingly
- Ensure the programs are culturally sensitive, inclusive and accessible to all residents, regardless of ability and limitations
Team Member Supervision & Training:
- Train, supervise and evaluate program team members, including recreation therapists, activity coordinators and volunteers
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance competencies in program planning, communication and resident engagement
- Foster a positive and supportive work environment that encourages creativity, collaboration and teamwork among program team members
Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the program budget, including allocation of funds for supplies, equipment and special events
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-effective strategies to maximize resources and optimize the quality and variety of programs offered to residents
- Seek external funding and community partnerships to supplement the program budget and enhance program offering
Evaluation and Quality Improvement:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs through resident feedback, observation and outcome measures
- Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance program quality, diversity and resident satisfaction
- Stay abreast of trends and best practices in resident programming and incorporate new ideas as appropriate
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary care team, including nursing professionals, dietary managers and social workers to coordinate and integrate programs with overall resident care plans
- Participate in care planning meetings and interdisciplinary rounds to address resident needs and preferences related to socialization, recreation and leisure activities
Who You Are:
- Have a post secondary degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an indigenous institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology or another degree granting institution
- Bring 3 years of experience in management and planning, implementation and evaluation of programs
- You have strong people management skills that can guide, motivate and supervise a diverse team while also being able to delegate tasks effectively
- Can demonstrate patient, understanding, and able to connect with both residents and their families
- You are able to think quickly, adapt to changing situations, and resolve issues efficiently
- Possess effective organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks, manage budgets and ensure the smooth operation of the department
