Senior Project Manager, Capital Projects

Located on the Trent-Severn Waterway in the heart of the Kawartha tourism region, Peterborough is a unique community known for its exceptional quality of life and beautiful setting. Lead, manage and conduct capital project development and implementation for the Facilities and Property Management Division. Provide advanced project management and planning to a broad range of facilities-based capital construction projects for the City of Peterborough. Provide project planning, oversight and technical expertise in the design, tender, construction and final commissioning of municipal projects. Oversee all aspects of project delivery for assigned Facilities and Property Management projects that are led by consultants. Provide back-up to the Director of Facilities and Property Management as required.

Qualifications

This position requires a four-year University Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Architecture, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience with minimum of five years' experience related to large complex municipal capital projects planning and construction. Project management certificates/courses and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification would be considered an asset.

Demonstrated experience leading projects and teams for and delivery of major capital projects, strategic/master planning and energy and sustainable infrastructure improvement projects. Demonstrated leadership, management, administration, and team-building skills to direct the work of others including consultants and contractors. knowledge of relevant legislation Requires knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. the Ontario Building Code, Construction Act, Municipal Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, AODA etc.)

Excellent communication skills for making presentations to large groups, facilitating public meetings, directing and guiding consultants, and responding to inquiries of the media and public; extensive experience in contract tendering and administration; excellent leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to successfully guide the work of others including consultants and contractors; advanced report writing skills to prepare formal analysis and recommendations for Council and senior staff; and demonstrated proficiency with a variety of software applications (e.g. GIS platforms, MS Office Suite, PowerPoint, AutoCAD etc.). Requires a valid driver's license to fulfil the requirements of the position and the ability to work extended hours to attend evening meetings, as required.
