What you will do.

The Accountant is responsible for full cycle operational accounting, financial reporting and analysis as well as preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statement packages. Additionally, they will assist with the responsibility of managing other areas within the department under the direction of the Controller, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, audits and aiding in the future growth of the company, working together with the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely and accurate month-end close including execution of any month/quarter/year-end deliverables.
  • Responsible for the regular review of AP and AR.
  • Coordinate, implement, and follow up on Accounting SOP audits for all areas of the business.
  • Monitor, evaluate, investigate, and respond to disputes received by various clients from various industries.
  • Manage the planning and implementation of a chargeback strategy in collaboration with other team members as required.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies and make necessary adjustments where required.
  • Support the controller and the department as required with ad-hoc projects and duties.
  • Manage external auditors and successful completion of the year-end audit; Ensure sales tax and corporate tax compliance; and
  • Support ERP Improvement Initiatives – Develop a thorough understanding of the company's ERP system including its financial tracking and reporting capabilities;
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, accounting team, consultants, other business departments as required.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and privacy of financial records as they relate to the organization, its personnel, and its business partners.
  • Assist with preparation of ad-hoc financial analysis as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • 5+ years direct experience in a general accounting capacity.
  • Working towards CPA or already have CPA designation is an asset.
  • Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office applications – an Excel expert.
  • Strong knowledge of collection regulations and fair credit practices.
  • Must possess a high level of moral judgment for handling confidential information and monetary transactions.
  • Experience in gathering data, compiling the proper information, and preparing financial reports.
  • Able to perform moderate to complex account reconciliations.
  • Highest degree of integrity, honesty, and commitment to professionalism.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
