Role: Community Short Breaks Practitioner

Salary: £23,500 per annum (Pro rata)

Contract/Hours: Permanent/Part-time 20 hours a week this will include one evening Monday or Wednesday from 5pm to 9:00pm

Location: Cornwall – Remote

A Bit about the Role:

Action for Children Cornwall SPACE is a Cornwall Council commissioned Service providing Short Breaks and Youth Groups for children/young people with both physical and learning difficulties aged between 5 and 25 years. As a Community Short Breaks Practitioner, you'll have the incredible opportunity to offer exciting and diverse activities and a much needed break to children and young people with physical and learning difficulties in Cornwall. We are looking for two people to join our dedicated, growing team. With generous flexibility in working days and hours during term time in this role, you'll be able to accommodate the needs of both children, young people and their families. During holidays especially Easter and Summer there is a requirement that the successful candidate will work 3 days per week, this will include some Saturdays and will include travel across the county.

These 2 roles will be divided in to two distinct areas:

The West: planning and leading our short break activities in the Easter and Summer Holidays as well as planning and delivering our youth group on a Monday night between 5:00 and 9:00 in term time.

The East: planning and leading our short break activities in the Easter and Summer Holidays as well running our youth group in Liskeard on a Wednesday evening 5:00 – 9:00 in term time.

This fantastic remote role offers our Community Short Breaks Practitioner an array of enriching experiences for our service users throughout the picturesque landscape of Cornwall, from serene beach outings, exhilarating boat trips and engaging arts and craft sessions, we specifically tailor activities to our service users and their complex needs.

How you'll help to create a brighter future

  • Working in a team to deliver exciting and high-quality youth work for our service users.
  • Working collaboratively with young people to understand their needs and creating a fun and exciting person centred program.
  • Planning and delivering activities and encouraging active participation amongst service users
  • Conducting assessments and referrals to service and updating relevant paperwork,
  • Working within a small team and helping with short break activities in the Easter and summer holidays

Let's talk about you:

  • Relevant NVQ level 3 or previous experience working with children and young people with disabilities (qualifications can be attained while in the role)
  • Experience of working with young people and a youth work curriculum
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices.
  • Creative, positive and proactive approach towards work.
  • To be able to work and travel across the county (Mileage is paid)
