This includes providing advice and expertise related A.M Fredericks property programs.Please note; this role is 100% onsite in Ajax, Ontario (201-339 Westney Road South) with the potential for remote work (1-2 days / week) once onboarded. Responsibilities of the Senior Underwriter & Team Lead:Be responsible for underwriting tasks to achieve targeted goals within the product portfolioLead team performance through proactive coaching, employee development and performance appraisalsReview risk submissions within assigned authority limits – primarily, but not exclusively, through file and call audits. Evaluate, accept, reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelinesSecure additional information and review endorsements where necessary and analyze all pertinent data to determine acceptability of risks according to established underwriting standardsAssist in preparing submissions for higher underwriting reviewCoach brokers for success and improvement to enhance underwriting capabilities, provide market and underwriting insightMaintaining the profitability of your portfolio through superior risk analysis, determining the quality of risk and making necessary recommendations on new business and renewalsNegotiating coverage, policy terms and premium rates with clients, referring business exceeding authority level to the appropriate levelContacting external resources as required for additional information pertaining to the riskParticipating actively with brokers in terms of promoting products, developing and maintaining positive relationships and business developmentEnsuring proper file documentation and organization within the underwriting systemUplifting technical knowledge of yourself and the team through mentoring, coaching, training and meetings with colleagues and direct reportsMentor / train junior underwriter(s) and technical assistant(s)What we're looking for in our Senior Underwriter & Team Lead:The ideal candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual and collaborator who is client focused, proactive in dealing with situations and uses critical judgment to make decisions and offer solutions. The person will also demonstrate the following:Post-Secondary degree or diploma in a related field, such as mathematics, finance, economics, business or equivalent experience10+ years of experience in underwritingCIP Certification or equivalentTeam management / supervision / mentorship experienceProficient with Microsoft Office SuiteProven mathematical and analytical skillsConsiderable experience in a highly service-oriented roleEffective problem solver with initiative to be innovative and creative with developing new ideas and conceptsExemplary interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationshipsExcellent time management skills with proven ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks and move between projects continuouslyExcellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skillsStrong organizational skills, attention to detailCommitted to team-based environmentsProven ability to handle confidential material with the highest level of discretionDemonstrated ability to flourish in environments of significant changeAutonomous (comfortable working with minimal supervision)Please inform us if you require any accommodations during the hiring process.
