Objectives:

Our client, a professional engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer. The successful candidate will provide electrical engineering services for upstream oil and gas facilities, pipelines and carbon capture projects. This includes planning, designing and managing the installation of electrical equipment, components, and systems. They will contribute to diverse projects, each ranging from $1 million to $200 million total capital cost.

Qualifications:

At a minimum, we require:

  • Accredited Engineering degree (Electrical or related).
  • Professional Licensee (P.L.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • 10 years of experience providing electrical engineering services for upstream oil and gas facilities and pipelines.

Ideally, you possess:

  • Experience working at small to medium-sized (< 250 employees) oil and gas engineering services (EPC) firms.

Responsibilities: Electrical System Design

  • Completing low and medium voltage design.
  • Conducting equipment specification and sizing, power system simulation, single line diagrams, load lists, hazardous area classification, cable tray designs, voltage drop calculations, conductor sizing, control/marshaling panel designs, I/O schematics, power distribution, field junction boxes, cable schedules, etc.
  • Managing project instrument indexes using tools such as Excel and SmartPlant Instrumentation.
  • Creating data sheets for various electrical equipment.
  • Developing control philosophies and shutdown keys.
  • Conducting heat trace calculations, using Computrace.

Electrical Studies and Reviews

  • Conducting hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs), fugitive emissions studies, protection coordination studies, load flow, short circuit analysis and relay coordination.
  • Developing protection philosophies.
  • Preparing technical reports.

Project Management and Procurement

  • Providing input on electrical issues for Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Project Execution Plans (PEP).
  • Preparing man hour estimates and monitoring performance against established metrics.
  • Developing LV/MV electrical equipment bids, submission evaluations, and related procurement activities.
  • Conferring with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products.
