Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of life safety/fire alarm system engineering end to end. Providing concrete fire alarm solutions based on systematic code analysis and customer specifications.
  • Prepare design shop drawings including field device layout, riser diagrams, equipment elevations and detailed wiring, point to point device wiring, logic diagrams, line loss calculations, battery calculations, BOM, cable schedules etc. based on relevant fire alarm codes and standards including IBC, IFC, NFPA 72, UL/ULC standards pertaining to FAS/MNS, etc.
  • Software designs as well as asbuild close out drawings.
  • Communicate technical concepts/solutions to internal and external customers; e.g. conducting site walks, accurately reviewing customer specs, and with the ability to identify opportunities, risks, and resources required to achieve results within the proposal cycle.
  • Review job contract plans, scope and specifications, MRs, survey information, sales sketches, estimates and take-off sheets for opportunities and proposals. Clearly define requirements prior to starting engineering.
  • Prepare submittals per engineering standards, ensuring commitment dates are met. Review submittals with project teams and lead team to obtain hardware submittal approval.
  • Support Sales and Project Manager on surveys, application selection, layout of potential retrofit opportunities and assessing customers' business objectives and strategies.
  • Professionally communicate in writing and verbally to account team, proposal team management and customers.
  • Advise and consult as technical expert to sales and Project Managers to drive and implement short and long-term projects.
  • Material and labor estimation for Fire Alarm/Fire and/or Gas systems and/or HVAC systems.
  • Manage personal backlog of projects.
  • Must have the ability to multi task and produce desired results in a deadline driven environment.
  • Build positive and effective working relations with both internal customers (sales, PMs, techs) and external customers.
  • Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of associates, the public, and the environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related disciplines.
  • In lieu of a degree, CET also considered
  • 6+ years of Electrical Engineering/Design experience in FAS
  • 6+ years experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • 6+ years experience with Fire Codes including IBC, IFC, NBC, NFC, NFPA 72, UL/ULC standards for Life Safety Systems.
  • Track record of top quality work.

Additional Qualifications / Skills:

  • Competencies to include (but not limited to): NAC device layout and application; SLC device layout and application; sizing of amplifiers, power supplies, panels and batteries; and basic smoke control.
  • Good understanding of integrations or interfacing with the building automation systems, security systems, fire protection systems, elevator control, lighting systems, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • High competency written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple jobs at the same time.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a process driven environment.
  • Strong time management skills and dedication to delivery on schedule.
