What do you offer?

The Neighbourhood Day Camp Site Director supervises and implements the delivery of quality recreational programs, services, and experiences to children and youth aged 4 to 16 enrolled in Neighbourhood Day Camp programs. The Camp Site Director supervises counsellors and program staff and provides them with tools to create a meaningful camp experience for all participants as they engage in summer camp activities, discover nature and enjoy the natural environment, build self-confidence and establish lasting friendships.

Positions available at various locations across the city such as:

  • Taggart Family Y
  • Nepean (Barrhaven)
  • Clarence-Rockland Y
  • Stittsville
  • Kanata

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Being responsible for supervising and implementing the delivery of quality programs, services and experiences to children and youth aged 4-16 in camp.
  • Managing any concerns related to customer service and helping follow-up on concerns that arise.
  • Supervising Counsellors, Section Heads and Program Staff.
  • Providing Counsellors, Section Heads and Program Staff with tools to create a meaningful experience for all participants.
  • Providing customer service to parents and caregivers.
  • Being responsible for supporting the leadership team with the daily administrative requirements of the campsite.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field
  • Bachelor of Education would be considered an asset
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Recreation, Human Kinetics, or Social Services would be considered an asset

Language

  • Ability to work in English
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Standard First Aid and CPR "C" or equivalent
  • National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, or other relevant certifications will be strongly considered as assets
  • Experience working in a camp setting with progressive leadership and responsibility
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in camping and outdoor education, and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in camping and outdoor education
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with program participants, members, staff and volunteers
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity

Additional Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old by June 24, 2024.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
