The Publications Specialist is responsible for the timely production and distribution of Horizon Grocery + Wellness publications and information in either or both digital and print format. The Publications Specialist requires a thorough understanding of Horizon's workflow and processes interdepartmentally. Ensures all digital or print content meets professional and visual standards.

RESPONSIBILTIES:

PRODUCTION:

  • Produce Horizon Grocery + Wellness publications (print and/or digital) as needed
  • Execute design and layout of publication elements; write copy and business communications; work with spreadsheets and databases of information
  • Meet production deadlines for all materials produced in Publications
  • Produce specialized publications, signage, reports, forms, business communications and announcements (print, web and/or digital) at the request of SVP, VP and/or Marketing Team Manager
  • Purchase materials, products and services related to design, layout and mailing
  • Produce and/or oversee production of marketing and display materials for trade shows as required and deliver on time
  • Perform various functions related to Horizon Online platform
  • Schedule and supervise mailing labour as needed in consultation with People + Culture

COMMUNICATIONS + SCHEDULING:

  • Create catalogue, specials books and CHFA book production schedules
  • Ensure that all publications documents are produced on time
  • Write, edit, format and distribute reports, trade announcements and business communications

OTHER:

  • Act as contact for printing company and submit publications materials to them
  • Review and assess postage and labour costs related to the distribution of catalogues
  • Maintain mailing lists based on customer eligibility and format to comply with Canada Post addressing and delivery standards
  • Main contact for KIMBO (website developer)
  • Inform Manager of the ongoing needs of the Publications Department
  • Other duties as assigned by SVP, VP or Marketing Team Manager

QUALIFICATIONS + EXPECTATIONS:

SOFTWARE + PROGRAMS USED:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud (most commonly used apps are Indesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator and Dreamweaver)
  • Automatication Multi-Find/Change 3.0 for Adobe InDesign/InCopy CC 2017, 2018 & 2019 (essential third party plugin)
  • Microsoft Office (most commonly used apps are Outlook, Excel, Word and some PowerPoint)
  • Iptor + related Queries
  • Qlikview
  • WordPerfect
  • Dropbox and WinSCP (for data transfers to/from print houses/vendors/web servers)
  • Canada Post EST Desktop

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong working knowledge of design concepts and their applications
  • Strong working knowledge of the software and hardware used in desktop publishing (i.e., InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Strong working knowledge of the software and hardware used in office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook etc.)
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to plan projects and work within deadlines
  • Excellent organizational, planning, clerical and prioritization skills
  • Accuracy in data entry and word processing and excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with natural products and a working knowledge of the industry is an asset, not a requirement

COMPENSATION + WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is 3-month contract role from start date, $30/ hour with 6% vacation paid out each pay
  • Monday to Friday, office hours, closed on statutory holidays
  • Paid 35-minute lunch break
  • Reports to the Manager of the Marketing Team
