About the Role

Marcon is looking for a Senior Estimator to join our growing team. You are a people person, with excellent attention to detail, and someone who takes pride in their work. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you will be responsible for leading estimates on either a multi-project basis, or on a single large and complex project, for residential, commercial, office, & hospitality buildings.

Marcon has a fantastic pipeline of projects. We are looking for talented people ready to join the team to become a key part of our plans in executing our projects successfully.

People Interactions

  • Interact with and support chief estimator, pre-construction director, project directors, project managers, and coordinators.
  • Works closely with our external stakeholders e.g., Clients, consultants, and trade contractors, and internal stakeholders, e.g., Marcon development staff.
  • Able to explain and present estimates to senior management, and external clients.

Project delivery

  • Able to take the lead on creating and delivering estimate packages for complex projects.
  • Provides expert guidance to junior estimators and PM's.
  • Performs complex quantity takeoffs to Marcon and industry standards and can supervise the work of others.
  • Solicits sub trade and supplier pricing quotes and administers sub trade database.
  • Assists in the preparation of drawing reviews, including coordinating RFI's from sub trades to consultants.
  • Takes ownership of the estimate with only minor supervision, preparing direct and indirect costs.
  • Is actively aware of current market rates for building materials and labour, and provides input to the Marcon team on all construction cost matters
  • Incorporates requirements from drawings and specifications into estimate and assesses potential risk items.
  • Reviews and develops construction schedules and ensures alignment with the estimate.
  • Reviews construction methodology and ensures alignment with the estimate.
  • Reviews and analyzes quotes, providing data to support trade selection.
  • Leads value engineering processes.

Technology and Innovation

  • Strong computer background including experience with MS Office, On-Screen Takeoff, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with 3D quantification, Procore, and Smartsheets would be an asset.
  • An ability to think creatively and critically about problems, and to generate new and innovative ideas for improvement.

About You

  • 7+ years of estimating experience including residential & commercial market experience preferably.
  • General Contractor and or Trade Contractor experience is preferred.
  • College diploma or university degree in construction management, civil engineering, or quantity surveying.
  • Experience in both concrete, and wood frame construction is preferrable but not necessary.
  • Has a network of business relationships with trade contractors in the local Vancouver area.
  • Ability to conduct multi-tasking in an organized fashion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive attitude and a strong desire to take on new challenges and responsibilities.

The compensation range for this role is $120,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on candidate experience and qualifications.
