Key Areas of Responsibility
Mine Planning: Develop detailed mine plans and forecasts, addressing critical operational factors such as equipment availability, staffing levels, and environmental compliance. Ensure plans optimize production and efficiency while prioritizing safety and cost-effectiveness.
Operational Collaboration: Spend time in the field with the Mine Manager, Superintendent, and/or Supervisors on a daily basis to ensure that engineered plans are clearly understood and executed properly. Serve as a crucial liaison between Management, Operations, Engineering, and other departments, facilitating effective communication and execution of strategies.
Design Implementation: Consistently update and verify the accurate implementation of mining designs, including pit walls, dumps, and infrastructure. Ensure these designs are properly staked and executed in the field to maintain operational integrity and safety.
Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge and thorough understanding of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Communicate these standards to all relevant stakeholders, providing guidance and oversight to ensure compliance.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously monitor and refine mine planning processes to enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and waste management. Identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions to optimize operations.
Project Management: Support and lead improvement projects, addressing technical issues, optimizing mining operations and reducing costs.
Data Management: Gather and analyze field data to enhance operational mine planning and scheduling. Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and improve operational practices.
Leadership & Mentoring: Foster a culture of learning and development within the team. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to students, peers, and colleagues, aiding in the development of their skills and understanding of mining operations and safety practices.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
Degree in Mining Engineering, or a related field.
P.Eng. or Registered EIT working towards their P. Eng.
Valid Driver's License
At least 2 years' experience in an open pit mining environment.
Proficiency with mine planning software, such as MineSight.
Technical Competencies & Skills
Ability to adhere to a 5x2 schedule with 8-hour shifts.
Must be able to communicate in English.
Proven safety and attendance record.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
High level of attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively guiding and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to prioritize tasks effectively.
Capability to build strong working relationships internally and with diverse groups.
Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.

Specifically for the Pit Planner (Short-Range Planner) role, we offer an annual base salary range of $100,000.00 - $130,000.00, along with a variety of bonuses. These bonuses include monthly efficiency bonuses linked to safety and production, quarterly retention bonuses, and a performance bonus tailored to reward your contributions. Our benefits package also includes paid vacation and personal days, 7% RRSP matching, and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental care, among other valuable perks.
