Application Engineer

Our client, Grid Automation and Power Systems Engineering is seeking a Application Engineer to join their team. As a Application Engineer, you will be part of the CCS Engineering organization supporting Lead Customer Project Support for Protection/SCADA/Telecom Panel Design. The ideal candidate will have strong technical ownership, clear customer-focused communication, and a drive to deliver reliable protection and control solutions from design through commissioning.

Location: Markham, ON

Pay Range: $50.23 /hour

Shift: Nights (40 hour)

What's the Job?

• Analyze customer applications and specifications, then design protection and control panel deliverables including mechanical layout, single line diagram, three line diagram, schematic diagram, power diagram, control diagram, and Bill of Materials.
• Take full technical execution responsibility for assigned projects, including discussing design requirements with the customer and coordinating drafting support in the GE Vernova back office.
• Review back-office design work and submit finalized documentation to the customer for approval.
• Perform engineering studies and analyses such as load calculation and heat rise analysis to support safe, compliant, and reliable system performance.
• Create test plans/procedures/reports and support factory and site testing and commissioning for protection panels, RTU panels, and Digital Control System (DCS) panels.

What's Needed?

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in panel design and in creating specifications/compliance statements, including single line diagrams, schematic diagrams, control diagrams, wiring drawings, and power diagrams for relay protection and control using AutoCAD/Ebase.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications.
• Experience creating test procedures and maintenance procedures for factory and site testing/commissioning of protection panels.
• Experience programming GE Vernova relays (specifically the UR Family) OR 3rd party protection relays, plus experience designing power system control schemes such as transfer schemes and auto-restoration schemes.
