Ensure the durability and functionality of all infrastructure, equipment and public buildings with a view to sustainable development and improving residents' quality of life.
General responsibilities and objectives of the position
The electrical technician performs various technical and administrative tasks related to the design, development, and implementation of electrical distribution and outdoor lighting projects. In addition, the job involves preparing cost estimates, drafting specifications, preparing contractual documents, and preparing requests for quotes, among other tasks.
Example of main duties include:
- Conduct surveys, tests, verifications, inspections, and analyses necessary for the design, development, and implementation of lighting and power signaling projects.
- Perform or verify calculations relating to, among other things, circuit loads, light sources, illuminance levels, wiring, control systems, and measuring equipment, etc.
- Determine the selection of equipment and apparatus.
- Prepare cost estimates for construction, within their specialty by performing the appropriate calculations.
- Develop projects related to electrical distribution and outdoor lighting, integrating designs from other disciplines while ensuring compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and codes.
- Draft construction specifications and contractual documents and prepare requests for quotes.
- Generally, participate in various project planning, design, development, coordination, control, and supervision activities, while representing the professional as required.
- Perform any other related duties.
Requirements of the position
- Hold a technical college diploma or the equivalent
- Have two (2) to three (3) years of experience
- Valid driver's licence class 5
- Bilingual in English and French both written and spoken
- Hold the certification card for the general health and safety course
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
The following would be considered an asset:
- A degree in industrial electronics, electrical technology, electrical engineering, or a related field, or training deemed to be equivalent
- Master AutoCAD
- Relevant experience in outdoor lighting or street lighting
- Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards applicable in Quebec, as well as IES lighting standards and recommendations.
- Experience with photometric calculation and simulation software, particularly AGi32
