EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in Montreal, QC. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive environmental samples and enter Chain of Custody into LIMS system
- Review paperwork for all incoming samples to ensure completeness and correctness
- Quality control of samples to ensure sample integrity
- Transfer samples based on priority to appropriate custody locations
- Coordinate and perform sample-related activities, including shipping and receiving, processing and administration
- Generate reports, invoices, and enter data produced by analysts into the computer system for the production of the final, client ready report
- Ensure the final report is prepared and that the results are reported to the client in a timely manner
- Assist with internal and external client questions via phone, e-mail, and in person
- Act as a liaison between clients and laboratory staff
- Preparation and analysis of air samples for asbestos content using PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
- Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
- Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
- Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Authorization to work in Canada indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
- Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
- Bilingual in English and French
- Experience in administration, data entry, and customer service
- Proficient in MS Office
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clientele
- Ability to work in a high volume environment
- Ability to stand and sit for various lengths of time
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
- Effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to multi- task and prioritize with minimal assistance
Available Shift:
Position is full-time Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

EMSL Canada offers supplemental benefits and paid time off. The pay rate for this position is $23.00 per hour.
