Island Métis Family & Community Services Society provides a variety of support programs to Métis children and families living in the greater Victoria area. Currently, IMFCSS is accepting employment applications for the following position.

Métis Supported Child Development Team Leader

(Full-Time, Permanent Position)

Minimum qualifications, ALL of which must be met in order to be considered for the position:

A Degree in Early Childhood Development, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Nursing or a related humanities field or Early Childhood Certificate/Diploma and Special Needs Certificate and extensive relevant experience.

Strong knowledge of Métis history, cultural practices, traditions, teachings, stories, language, traditional foods and medicines and experiences particular to Métis people across Canada.

Knowledge of and experience with the _Child, Family & Community Services Act_, and MCFD practices and procedures.

Knowledge of Métis child-welfare issues, including working knowledge of Métis child-rearing and educational concepts, FASD and other issues that may impact a child's ability to participate in cultural programming.

Strong knowledge and expertise in child development, with an emphasis on infant growth and development.

Knowledge of relevant local/provincial/national Métis communities and organizations.

Familiarity with community resources in the South Island region, including child care resources.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication, record-keeping and management skills.

Strong advocacy and diplomacy skills.

Cultural sensitivity.

Proficiency in the use of computer software, including ability to create statistical reports in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Ability to take initiative, prioritize work, and multi-task.

Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing work environments.

Ability to function independently and with minimal supervision.

Successful candidate will be subject to a criminal record review, police record check and other reference checks.

Experience:

Three years recent, related experience including 2 years recent supervisory experience, preferably in an Indigenous organization.

At the office of Island Métis Family & Community Services Society, located at 345 Wale Road, Victoria.

This position is excluded from union membership. Hourly rate is $39.65 per hour. Normal schedule of work is 35 hours per week, performed Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, evening programming hours will be required at least once a month, may include other hours based on agency need.
