Student Debate Coach
Location: On-campus
Position Type: Part-Time Monday to Thursday, 4:30 5:30 p.m., with occasional weekend tournaments
Contract Dates: September 2025 to May 2026
Compensation: $40/hour- $50/hour

HOW YOU WILL THRIVE:

You will be at the forefront of our elite Debate program, guiding students in argumentation, public speaking, and critical thinking. Your leadership will shape their success in tournaments and in the classroom experience. Additionally, you will have the chance to design engaging debates, mentor emerging talent, and contribute to our School s co-curricular programs excellence.
HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

• Coach high school debate students during after-school sessions
• Attend local and regional weekend tournaments to coach, mentor, and judge student debaters
• Teach, model, and provide feedback on advanced debate skills including but not limited to Framing, Characterization, World Building, Impacting, Mechanization, Weighing, Principled Argumentation and Types of Extension
• Provide constructive oral adjudication and well-reasoned RFDs (Reasons for Decision)
• Assist students with prepared motions and developing argument briefs
• Support school-run tournament preparation and facilitation

WHAT YOU BRING:

• Strong background in British Parliamentary and Canadian National Debate Format
• Active or recent participation in university-level competitive debate
• Availability for afternoon coaching and select weekend events
• An optimistic and adaptable approach, fueled by a passion for empowering every student to achieve their potential
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
• Strong commitment to mentorship, education, and student growth
• Debate coaching or mentoring experience is considered an asset
• Ability to run tabulation software is considered an asset
