Associate, Investment Research - SLC Management
What's in it for you:
As Associate, Investment Research, you play an important role in managing relationships with a designated group of investment managers and communicating relevant information to Sun Life business units. You participate in the selection, evaluation, ongoing monitoring, and relationship management of assigned internal and third-party investment managers made available to Sun Life clients globally. You may also participate in ad-hoc innovation projects and initiatives with the various Sun Life Business Units. This role supports Sun Life's business units globally.
What will you do:
• Add value through on-going monitoring of investment managers, strategies and/or funds, deliver quarterly questionnaires to the managers; analyze responses and follow-up as necessary.
• Analyze asset class and investment performance results utilizing attribution and risk measurement techniques to explain portfolio performance variations from benchmark performance and/or peer universe performance.
• Partner with consultant in investment manager searches; conducting screening from various databases, deliver RFPs to investment manager candidates.
• Review investment strategies globally; identify value propositions, performance drivers and provide opinion via a detailed written report.
• Create content for various investment reports, i.e. economic commentary, manager profiles, and review of investment options and recommend improvements to investment reporting content.
• Research investment managers, products and industry trends, and complete reports and assist IIC consultants in presenting findings to the various committees. May be involved in other projects.
What you will need to succeed:
• University degree in business or equivalent.
• 1-3 years of industry experience.
• Strong technical and analytical skills; ability to distill information from a wide and complex variety of sources; experience working with both quantitative and qualitative information.
• Proficient in Excel. Experience and interest in data analytics an advantage. Sound knowledge of other MS Office applications.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, experience presenting in front of leadership teams is an asset.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented atmosphere.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage complex projects within deadlines.
• Understanding of capital markets and asset class fundamentals, asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk management.
• Knowledge of investment managers, investment styles and methodologies.
Preferred Skills:
• Enrolment in or completion of a professional designation (i.e. CFA, MBA) and/or familiarity with third party analytical tools (Morningstar Direct, Mercer Insight, Bloomberg or similar)
