Unit Summary

The Medical Diagnostic Units at Hamilton Health Sciences include the MDUs at Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, McMaster University Medical Centre and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. These are all administered in the Diagnostic Services program with a unified management structure. Specially trained physicians, technicians and technologists provide a range of both In-Patient and Out-Patient diagnostic testing that focuses on Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Neurological issues. The specific diagnostic tests available are: Electrocardiography (ECG), Holter Monitoring, Stress Exercise Testing, Echocardiography (Echo), Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT). Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (MG), Evoked Potentials (EVP) and Peripheral Vascular Testing.

Position Summary

The Respiratory Therapist will work in a fast paced interdisciplinary pulmonary and exercise lab and reporting to the Senior or leadership team. Specific responsibilities includes performing spirometry, lung volumes, lung diffusion, blood gas analysis, capillary puncture, methacholine challenge, walk test, skin test for allergy assessments and cardiopulmonary exercise stress testing within an interdisciplinary team setting. The technologist will be responsible to assess patient fitness for testing and adjusting according to patient history and status. They will complete technologist complete workflows in Epic and flagging urgent findings accordingly, reporting equipment issues to the MES. This role requires multi-site training.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy
Current General Registration, in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
Valid Basic Life Support Certification
Experience in an out-patient clinic or environment an asset
Demonstrated expertise with pulmonary function testing equipment
Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
Demonstrated patient teaching skills
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to set and adjust priorities and organize work in response to department needs
Ability to liaise with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
Demonstrated commitment to Hamilton Health Sciences' mission, vision, and values
