The Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project is a massive undertaking to extend rapid transit, and we're looking for a skilled Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join the team. You will play a crucial role at our precast yard and launching girder sites, ensuring our critical heavy equipment is always running safely and efficiently.
This project operates under a Project Labour Agreement (PLA), with a strong commitment to providing employment and training opportunities for local residents and Indigenous communities.
What you will be doing :
Your Role & Key Responsibilities
As a Heavy-Duty Mechanic, you will be the backbone of our field operations, responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing all mechanical equipment. Your daily work will directly support the casting and erection of the massive concrete segments that form the SkyTrain guideway.
Your core duties will include:
- Maintaining Mission-Critical Equipment: Perform expert repair and preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment, from construction machinery to segmental erection trusses.
- Assembly & Dismantling: Manage the assembly and disassembly of construction equipment under the jurisdiction of the Operating Engineers.
- Ensuring Compliance & Safety: Inspect and maintain all tools and machinery to ensure they meet manufacturer guidelines, EHS standards, and legislative requirements.
- Versatile Skillset: Your work may overlap with tasks traditionally performed by Welders, Mechanic Electricians, and Bodyperson Painters, offering variety in your role.
What we are looking for : What You Bring to the Team (Qualifications)
We are looking for a certified and experienced mechanic who takes pride in their work and understands the demands of a large-scale construction environment.
- Certification: You must possess a Journeyperson qualification (a government-recognized Trade Qualification Certificate is preferred). We also consider candidates with a proven track record of skills and experience equivalent to this classification.
- Tools: You are expected to provide the ordinary tools of the trade.
- Adaptability: You can work in multiple classifications and on a wide variety of equipment.
Mandatory Safety & Workplace Training

Compensation, Benefits & Work Schedule

- Hours of Work:
- The standard work week is 50-60 hours.
- Shifts are typically Monday-Friday.
