Mechanical (HVAC) Estimator (Fabrication)

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret project specifications, drawings, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to gather essential data and clarify project objectives.
• Calculate and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems using estimating tools such as AutoBid, Bluebeam, and Excel.
• Analyze material, labor, and equipment needs for each project and identify areas for cost-saving through value engineering.
• Present well-structured proposals and cost breakdowns to internal teams and clients, either virtually or in person.
• Maintain and update a detailed database of material and labor costs to ensure ongoing estimating accuracy and efficiency.
• Participate actively in company-provided training programs to enhance technical knowledge and sales acumen.

Skills & Competencies

• In-depth knowledge of mechanical and/or refrigeration systems and applicable building codes.
• High proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Skilled in the use of estimating software (AutoBid), markup tools (Bluebeam), and Microsoft Excel.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Journeyman certification in Sheet Metal/HVAC or Plumbing would be an asset
• Proven experience in a mechanical estimating role within the commercial or institutional sectors.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) integration is considered an asset.
