As a Remediation and Reclamation Coordinator at Tourmaline, you will have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise to the planning and successful execution of environmental site assessments, remediation, and reclamation activities across AB, BC, and SK in accordance with Tourmaline's overall liability reduction strategy. The Remediation and Reclamation Coordinator will report to the Liability and Closure manager, working closely with Reclamation Superintendents, Liability and Closure Engineering and Operations representatives, and third-party environmental consultants.
Key Accountabilities:
- Management and coordination of environmental site assessments, remediation, and reclamation activities, including:
- Regular engagement with multiple consulting companies for the development and delivery of closure programs; including accurate, timely, and consistent site status/cost reporting from within the Tourmaline developed Site Closure & Environmental Management App. (SCEMA).
- Technical review of consultant deliverables, applying past learnings to implement continuous improvements to the management of environmental projects.
- Manage project budgets and generate AFEs for closure work.
- Work with Land to obtain necessary agreements and trouble shoot issues in the closure process.
- Interface with on-site supervision to provide support for day-to-day operations.
- Manage invoices from environmental consultants and other vendors.
- Lead re-vegetation and vegetation management activities to obtain closure of Tourmaline sites.
- Work to continuously update internal reporting to support the Liability and Closure Team as a whole.
- Develop and maintain guidance and process documents for various tasks related to the role.
- Using technical experience, coordinate with Reclamation Superintendents in the planning and programming of the civil earth works portion of remediation and reclamation activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
- Assist the Indigenous Relations team in collaboration with First Nations with respect to restoration of sites.
- Develop risk ranking of contaminated sites to support prioritization of closure activities.
- Develop and review RFPs for closure related activities.
- Support acquisition due diligence and assist with the integration of acquisitions into Tourmaline liability data/programs.
- Provide technical advice to support industry advocacy and regulatory change to lower Asset Retirement Obligations
- Represent Tourmaline as needed at relevant environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation industry association meetings (e.g., CAPP and EPAC).
- Work with regulators to ensure regulations are practicable and consistently applied.
- Evaluate and implement new techniques and technologies to reduce costs of closure.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work from Tourmaline's Calgary head office (note: this is an office-based role).
- 6-12 years experience in the oil and gas industry in a related field with strong technical knowledge of environmental assessment, remediation, and/or reclamation projects.
- Engineering or Environmental/other Sciences Degree, technical diploma or equivalent.
- Familiar with AB (AER), BC (BCER), and SK (MER) regulations pertaining to the remediation and reclamation of upstream oil and gas sites.
- Team oriented individual with a desire to learn and continuously improve.
- Can work independently in a high volume and fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized with an appreciation for tight deadlines and delivering results.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to respond quickly to queries.
