Our challenge

We are seeking an experienced Java Lead Developer to oversee and contribute to the design, development, and deployment of complex software solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of Java technologies, and a passion for delivering high-quality applications in a collaborative environment.

Additional Information

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Montreal, QC is CAD $100,000 - CAD $110,000/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Java developers, ensuring best practices and high standards of code quality.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and efficient Java applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, architects, and QA to deliver project requirements on time.
  • Review code and provide constructive feedback to uphold coding standards.
  • Contribute to the architecture and technical design of new and existing systems.
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical issues and bugs.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and incorporate relevant advancements into the development process.
  • Participate in project planning, estimation, and risk assessment.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in Java development.
  • Strong expertise in Java (Java SE and Java EE), Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data), and related technologies.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, Microservices architecture, and containers (Docker, Kubernetes) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Good understanding of software design patterns, JVM tuning, and performance optimization.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and guide team members.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (Angular, React) is a plus.
  • Certification in Java technology or related areas is advantageous.
