About the company

Our client, FLiiP, is reshaping the fitness industry through a cutting-edge, all-in-one SaaS platform built for commercial gyms and multi-location fitness operators. Their solution helps streamline operations, centralize communication, and significantly boost member retention.

With more than $4M CAD in seed funding and as a participant in the Google for Startups Accelerator, FLiiP is experiencing rapid growth across North America.

The role

FLiiP is looking for a Tech Lead Developer to join their remote-first team in Canada. This is a hybrid role, ideally suited for a senior developer moving into leadership or an early-career manager looking to stay deeply involved in technical work.

The role is structured as 40% individual contribution and 60% people leadership. The selected candidate will work closely with the CTO and product team to scale a multi-tenant cloud platform built on PHP and React, while fostering an engineering culture rooted in ownership, experimentation, and high standards.

Key responsibilities

People & Team management (60%)

  • Lead, mentor, and support a small team of engineers with a focus on growth and performance.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, career development planning, and performance evaluations.
  • Drive recruitment efforts and help onboard high-caliber technical talent.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and high performance.
  • Enable cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, and design teams.

Technical leadership (40%)

  • Contribute directly to the codebase with hands-on development using the PHP/React stack.
  • Design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions for a multi-tenant architecture.
  • Lead architectural discussions and set high engineering standards.
  • Optimize performance, infrastructure, and data pipelines for maximum business impact.
  • Champion the integration of AI and automation in all aspects of the development lifecycle.
  • Translate product and business needs into robust technical solutions.

Engineering culture & processes

  • Define and continuously improve engineering workflows, deployment processes, and code review standards.
  • Promote data-driven decision-making and measurable technical outcomes.
  • Encourage a mindset of ownership, accountability, and user-centric development.

Candidate profile

Required skills & experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong proficiency in PHP and React.
  • 1 to 3 years in a technical leadership/ mentorship or engineering management role.
  • Proven experience building and scaling web applications, ideally within a SaaS environment.
  • Deep understanding of multi-tenant architectures, cloud infrastructure, and database design.
  • Fluent in English, professional working proficiency in French.
  • Startup-ready mindset: comfortable with fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Familiarity with AI tooling and a strong interest in integrating AI into workflows.
  • Data-oriented - focused on delivering measurable impact.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with infrastructure, DevOps, or cloud-native platforms.
  • A successful track record of hiring and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience managing the IC/Manager balance.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and modern development practices.

What's offered

  • Competitive compensation (based on experience), with 50% coverage of group health insurance premiums.
  • Comprehensive health & wellness support, including health benefits, fitness allowance (gym memberships, classes, team sports), and a $900/year telecommunications allowance.
  • Remote-first role based in Canada, with flexibility and autonomy, and only 1 day/month required at the Brossard office.
  • Opportunity to make a direct impact in a large, underserved market within a fast-growing, AI-driven company.
  • Close collaboration with leadership and strong backing from investors (recent CAD 4M fundraising), with a culture rooted in fitness, health, and innovation.
  • Dynamic, close-knit team that values speed, experimentation, boldness, and continuous learning in a supportive environment.

This is a unique opportunity to join a product-driven company where leadership, technical excellence, and a passion for innovation come together to build something meaningful at scale.
