Position Overview
The Night Shift Operations Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing all night-shift production, with a focus on school and wholesale orders. You'll also support and provide guidance to the Retail Production Manager to ensure consistency and alignment across all night operations.
This role is ideal for a people-first leader who leads by example, manages through data, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Strong Excel skills, KPI tracking experience, and clear written and verbal communication are essential.
During slower summer months (July and August), the role offers flexibility for vacation and opportunities to lead Kaizen initiatives, implement 5S practices, or support facility upgrades and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Order Management & Workflow
- Own the end-to-end night shift production workflow for school and wholesale orders.
- Support the Retail Production Manager as needed to ensure consistency across all departments.
- Review nightly order reports and logistics schedules; ensure pick lists are printed and sequenced correctly.
- Monitor and direct floor operations, resolving bottlenecks and ensuring timely flow.
- Ensure all orders are double-checked, boxed, labelled, and loaded with a high degree of accuracy and presentation.
Production Goals & Team Oversight
- Achieve and maintain a benchmark of 35+ orders/hour on the school line (primarily Monday and Tuesday nights).
- Ensure orders are picked and staged in advance of departure.
- Lead, schedule, and support a productive night shift team with clear role assignments.
- Train and mentor staff in procedures for picking, packing, staging, and quality control.
- Foster a people-first, performance-driven team culture built on respect, accountability, and consistency.
Quality & Compliance
- Conduct quality checks throughout the shift to ensure orders meet brand standards.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety policies and food handling procedures.
- Ensure all workstations are clean, safe, and organized; reinforce the proper use of uniforms and equipment.
- Document and escalate any quality issues, delays, or deviations from standard procedure.
Communication & Reporting
- Track production KPIs and maintain accurate shift data using Excel, ERP, WMS, and other digital tools.
- Communicate clearly in a timely and professional manner by email, messaging app, and in conversation.
- Daily shift meetings and presentations to staff and internal stakeholders.
- Submit professional end-of-shift reports summarizing performance, metrics, risks, and follow-ups.
- Communicate clearly with logistics, procurement, inventory, and daytime teams.
- Ensure clean handoffs between shifts and departments by documenting key updates and outstanding items.
Qualifications:
- Proven leadership experience in production, warehouse, or operations.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience in KPI tracking and reporting.
- Solid understanding of order fulfillment, staging, and outbound logistics.
- Familiarity with 5S, Lean, or continuous improvement practices is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Available for straight overnight shift and able to commit to working Saturdays.
- Comfortable leading in a high-volume, fast-paced, physically active environment
Shift Details:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 12 am-9 am.
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays are busiest, so could be longer days, Thursday and Friday could be shorter days.
- 44-hour work week.
- Sunday and Wednesday off.
