ROLE
Reporting to and under the general supervision of the firm Principals, the Senior Lab Specialist will fulfill an essential role in the office by working alongside the firm Principals and fellow designers to oversee complex research and healthcare related environments within a project. This role involves working directly with clients, user engagement, consultants, designers, suppliers and technical teams to prepare the necessary documents and coordination for the project. In addition, this role involves active engagement within the firm to promote the firm culture and engage positively with all staff members. Establishing, nurturing and maintaining client relationships is a key component of this position as well as facilitating the promotion of the firm with outside individuals and agencies. Specific roles and responsibilities are outlined below
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and follow project work plans and schedules that outlines detailed scope and timelines to completion, coordinated with fee and cash flow projections.
Organize and run client meetings, presentation and sub-consultant coordination meetings. All meetings to be preceded by defined agendas and followed up with meeting minutes.
Oversee the production of contract drawings, schedules, detail design, specification and sketches from conceptual design, through tender to construction. Most projects will have a focus on research, healthcare and laboratory environments.
Ensure proper tracking procedures are developed and maintained to corelate with meeting critical project timelines and milestones.
Ensure CAD / Revit Standards, quality assurance and quality control procedures are followed during drawing planning and production.
Lead the other members of the project team and assign project duties as required while reporting to the Principal in Charge. Provide timely updates to the firm principals re project progress and schedules.
Co-ordinate project information and work with all internal and/or external disciplines including specialty consultants.
Assist with the preparation of RFP's as required.
Assist with Business Development with a specific focus on research, lab and healthcare requirements.
Write and update specifications as they relate to research and laboratory environments.
Assist team on AODA compliance, review and specifications.
Provide mentorship to fellow team members
SKILL REQUIREMENT
Experience with all phases of design including concept design, design development, working drawings and contract administration
Excel in a team environment and team leadership including ability to manage a team to produce
successful design and construction projects
Solid technical understanding of building and lab infrastructure
Prepare Agenda's, lead client and user engagement meetings
Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction
Establish and maintain project criteria and communicate it to project teams
Demonstrate high initiative and be self-motivated
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Be comfortable participating in business development
Clear understanding and application of sustainable design principles
Superior abilities in at least two areas of competency
Understanding and development of contract agreements
Current and updated knowledge on trends, safety and understanding of complex research environments including laboratories.
Current and updated knowledge on AODA compliance and similar standards.

It is essential to have a strong skill base in the understanding of the following software:
