About the Role

This is a great opportunity for a talented consultant in the environment field to participate in environmental investigations, environmental protection and to prepare and manage permits and approvals for infrastructure projects. The position will be located in Victoria, BC and will be largely focused on projects throughout the Pacific Coast of Canada, as well as other geographically diverse locations. The ideal candidate for this position is one with a proven background in: communicating with regulatory agencies, interpreting and applying environmental legislation, and writing technical reports and permit applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to field programs, and components of environmental assessments. Investigations will involve topics such as ocean/aquatic/riparian environments, pollution/effluents, fish and fish habitat, aquatic wildlife, species-at-risk.

The candidate will be part of a team of design engineers and environmental professionals that delivers projects in a coordinated and pragmatic manner.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support environmental permit applications for marine/aquatic construction projects.
  • Technical writing, reporting, data analysis and interpretation for use in reports (e.g. environmental impact studies).
  • Prescribe measures to mitigate potential environmental impacts during construction.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure environmental compliance and complete monitoring reports.
  • Assist with planning and executing field work to collect environmental data (e.g., water, sediment, species, habitat).
  • Developing relationships with clients.
  • Maintain technical knowledge in professional practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, engineering, or applied science technologist.
  • Must be eligible to register for a professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Eng., or AScT).
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an environmental consulting or similar role. Combinations of qualification and experience will be considered.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Customer service attitude.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent technical writing skill.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good knowledge of aquatic ecology, species, and habitats.
  • Ability to work in the field in a variety of weather conditions, and with limited direction.
  • Good knowledge of BC and federal environmental legislation and proven experience preparing environmental permit applications.
  • Environmental sampling/surveying using a variety of field instruments (e.g. van veen, niskin, bathymetry, ADCP, profiling).
  • Familiarity with marine construction, considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with riparian regulations, considered an asset.
  • Experience with GIS software, considered as asset.
  • Willingness to travel for project work, as needed.
  • Valid drivers licence.

Compensation

Anticipated Salary: Intermediate (Qualified Professional) $80,000 to $110,000. GreatPacific offers fair compensation based on individuals' education, experience, skill and professional qualifications.

Compensation will be based on the successful applicant's qualifications, experience and skills.
