Generate Upcycle is hiring a Controls Engineer to join our team in London, ON! The position is a critical member of our team, and will have a direct impact on the day-to-day operations and overall successful growth of the business, reporting to the Director of Engineering - Anaerobic Digestion. As the Systems Integration Engineer you will work with the operation and engineering teams to ensure disruptions of the day-to-day operations are minimal. You'll also work with project groups to define and implement control system changes necessary, and third parties to design, develop and implement a standard data collection framework for all facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate Process Control Narratives (PCN) for different facilities
  • Assist with development of standardized data collection system/framework from all facilities
  • Lead the ongoing design and support for technology in server and related environments, data network infrastructure and related environments, storage area network and other storage related environments
  • Develop strategies for implementing new services and upgrades on control systems
  • Ensure the availability and performance of the current production storage, information processing, and computing environment in assigned and related areas of the organization
  • Test system architecture to minimize risks to the production systems
  • Investigate, evaluate, compare, and demonstrate new hardware and software products which could enhance the Company's information processing, data storage, and control system
  • Liaise with computer vendors, PLC programmers, and operation & engineering groups as a means to maintain communication between all parties involved in technical projects and day-to-day operations
  • Design, implement, and document support processes, procedures, and mechanisms which inter-connect various control systems in support of the integration of processes and data flow
  • Gather and compile information and create reports and graphs for capacity planning and performance metrics
  • Prepare technical specifications and requests for quotes from suppliers and requests for proposals
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related field
  • Five (5) or more years' relevant experience
  • Experience in programming languages for RS View and Wonderware preferred
  • PLC knowledge and experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to travel within the US, Canada and the UK
  • Strong computer skills with a high level of proficiency in programs such as Oracle, SQLServer, Java, Allen Bradley and Siemens; PLC, Ignition software
  • Strong problem-identification and problem-resolution, with Root Cause Analysis training preferred
  • Analytical, planning, prioritization, execution and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment, with multiple departments and key business partners
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and multi-task to meet target deadlines, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to decipher technical data and explain in English
  • Must possess a high level of moral judgement for handling confidential information
  • Strong diplomatic, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills

Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Positions operates in several different environments which includes a professional office and field environment.
  • Travel required
  • Position is onsite
