Product Designer - UI/UX

Hospitality is one of the largest industries in the world, making up 10% of global GDP. In the US & Canada alone it employs more than 15M people. However, we believe that it's harder now than it has ever been to start and run a successful restaurant. Around 60 percent of new restaurants fail within the first year and nearly 80 percent close before their fifth anniversary.

So why is success in the hospitality industry so hard? Is there some underlying principle about the industry that makes these incredibly high failure rates unavoidable? We don't think so. We think that building and growing a successful hospitality business is a problem rooted in code, language, and design. A problem that starts with systems.

Tango is founded on the belief that any hospitality business should have a single, intelligent system that works across every part of the operation. No other systems work like that today.

We envision a future where every restaurateur in the world has an AI General Manager in their pocket.

AI is poised to change every industry and hospitality is no exception. If you're uniquely passionate about designing and building the AI future of hospitality come join us.

We are a small, tight-knit team backed by leading VC funds. Our team members have worked at the likes of Google, Snapchat, Barclays, Amazon, SAP, IBM and General Electric. We left those companies for a reason. We are more Pirate than Navy. Pirates wanted.

You may be a fit for this role if:

  • You are excited about working specifically with us. You want to build enduring relationships in a small, tight-knit team and you care deeply about the problem we are solving.
  • You are a self starter and an idea-generation machine. You help drive the roadmap by imagining and then designing a better future. You don't wait to be told what to do, you pull on interesting threads as they appear and follow them as far as they go-and then a little further.
  • You are quick, scrappy and relentlessly resourceful. You know how to get stuff done and are willing to run through walls to do it. Design at Tango is lightning fast - we typically take features from idea to high-fidelity design in days, not weeks or months.
  • You thrive in an environment of extremely high talent density. You want to work with the best people and don't tolerate mediocrity. You do great work for the sake of it.
  • You are extremely detail oriented and don't leave any room for doubt in your designs. Every interaction is thought out and serves a purpose. Every detail matters.
  • You are excited about working on the hardest problems because they are hard.
  • You say what you think and do what you say.
  • You hold yourself to a higher standard than anyone else ever will.
  • You take your work seriously, but don't take yourself too seriously.
  • You know that ego gets in the way of truth. You relentlessly seek truth.

What you'll be doing:

  • Talk to users, translate these conversations into product features, improvements and fixes, work with engineering to get them shipped, repeat.
  • Own all aspects of our visual identity across product, marketing, socials and brand.
  • Define and implement design systems, documentation practices and workflows that help the team build visually consistent, high-quality features quickly.
  • Build the design team as we scale, including hiring, establishing design processes, and fostering a culture of rapid iteration and excellence.
  • Working directly in Figma, Webflow, and other design tools. You should be an AI-native and know how to iterate fast and make a lot out of a little.

Our office is located at 340 King St E in downtown Toronto, Canada. We are a 100% in person team. We think there is nothing more enjoyable than working in person with smart, passionate, high energy people.

Applicants who do not want to work with our team in person will be immediately archived.
