The Estimator (Underground Construction) is responsible for preparing estimates, budgets and working with the project management team to prepare schedules. They will also participate in the development and marketing of Telecon's services.
They may be based in either Ottawa or the Greater Toronto Area. This role will require occasional field/site visits as needed (approximately 15-20% of the time).
The ideal candidate must have a valid G-level driver's license and a good abstract. Salary commensurate with experience.
YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
Estimation of underground utility work, primarily telecommunications and associated civil works
Perform bid walks, gather and analyze client plans, specifications and associated costs in order to prepare quotes
Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements; setting priorities
Prepares construction budget by studying plans (design-builds); identifying and projecting costs for each project
Coordinates pricing from suppliers / subcontractors and incorporates into estimate
Solicit, receive and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
Prepare tenders for submission including costs for - labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts.
Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Maintains quality service by following organization standards
Maintains continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
Negotiate purchase orders and subcontracts following award of bid
Drives positive relationships with Clients, Consultants and key subcontractors
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Any and all other duties as assigned in order to meet Company objectives
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering or diploma in Civil, Mechanical and Construction Technology
At least 1-2 years of experience providing estimates from start to finish (for underground construction projects)
Strong negotiations skills
Possess strong mathematical and computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office)
Ability to read plans and specifications
Must have at least a G-level license and good driving abstract
Knowledge construction specifications, practices , costs and estimating techniques
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Attention to detail with the ability to recognize and resolve discrepancies
Excellent time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet objectives
